Yes indeed, I agree with you. Choice is what we need. I would like to
see more magnet schools i.e. technical, performing arts, medical
professions, etc. I would like to see more private schools, I know it
is controversial but I would like to see a voucher system and give
people a choice. I would like to see more vocational tracks for those
who do not have the aptitude for a college bound program - their choice
not tracking by us. I would like to see remote learning options - if
not for the entire school at least in certain subjects. I would like to
see elimination of grade levels and make it more objective - you
demonstrate knowledge, you move on. No demonstration of knowledge, keep
working.
I think choice is really going to be the only way to solve this math.
There is just way too much power concentration to make needed changes. A
simple year round option may be OK if it is up to the students and
parents to choose. A 3 or 4 day school week may be an option if the
parents and students have the option to choose. But I think if we force
it down peoples throats, as we tend to do, there will be little support,
much resistance, and ultimately the same mess we have now.
