OK I know we have not always had the school year we have now. I know it
originally the school season was whenever the communities could get a
teacher.

What I want to know is why do we have the summer off. The kids that get
off here to help with the farms (yes, I am in farm country) are needed
mainly at harvest time. If this were the case we would have sep-Nove off
not Jun-Aug.

I have heard many reasons, ranging from the kids were needed for hay
season to the fact that the early schools had no refridgeration and kids
kept getting sick because their lunches went bad.

I would really like to know why we are on this particular schedule, how
it started and how it got set in stone.
