Why would you do this?? Even if it is true, what could a mom
do about it by the time you have them in school? Is smarter
the key to everything?
Listen to my story...my daughter ended up having a c
section because the baby would not turn. The minute they
started the proceedure she became deathly ill and started
vomiting...so, they had to give her something to stop this
and she could not breast feed the baby for 36 hours.
Meanwhile, when she got back to the room, my son-in-law and
her were shown a movie that breast feeding needs to take
place within so many hours to properly bond with the baby.
My daughter started crying..my son-in-law looked completely
helpless.I was furious with the OB nurse for making them
watch when they knew the situation and had the doctor come
in and talk my daughter. He did a wonderful job of
reassuring her and my son-in-law. Due to other
complications, breast feeding became a problem and so she
could not do it as she had planned.
That baby is now 4 years old. He is smart, social and a
delight to his pre-school teacher and classmates. Could he
have been smarter? Perhaps. But, really, who cares?
I also have 2 children in my room that spent the first 6
months of their life in a critical state. There are some
delays, but the fact is THEY ARE ALIVE and functioning
beyond expectations. While, breast feeding may be the best
way, it cannot always be the way.
This is the type of studies that need to be handed out
after a normal birth of a child. It does not belong in the
kindergarten information section to add guilt and relieve
the burden of failure from the teacher.
