Re: Maternity Leave question--head is spinning--maybe one of
    Posted by wren on 5/08/08

    Hi,

CONGRATS! I was on a maternity leave this fall. I was off
until November. Your school may have something in your
contract that is different from mine, but at my school, I
was able to use my sick and personal days and get paid for
those days. That was over a month worth of days. However,
once I exhausted those days, I was on my own. Schools are
not required to pay anything during a leave. I do not think
most do. I am sure that your school has a policy as to how
much time you can take before the school will no longer pay
your benefits. Our school pays the benefits as long as you
do not miss more than 6o days of school (the sick days did
not count as missed days). You may want to look into
seniority issues in your building too. At our school, if
you miss more than 45 days, it does not count as a full year
toward accruing seniority. Hope this helps!
