Re: Maternity Leave question--head is spinning--maybe one of
Posted by me too on 5/08/08

After your allotted time off after delivery if your doctor
okays you to return to work you will then not be paid for any
additional time you take off. This falls under FMLA. If your
doctor extends your disability for additional "pain" or "post
pardum depression" then you will continue to be able to use
your sick days and supplemental disability insurance to
continue being paid. You will not be able to directly ask your
doctor for more time but most will assess your vague complains
and give additional time off. Mine just kept asking if I was
ready to go back. When I said no he asked me to come back in
two weeks. I stayed out an additional 6 weeks past my c-section
this way with pay. He diagnosed post pardum but we both knew
that wasn't really the case. He does however need to be able to
write it down for disability insurance claims that way. You
will not get any state disability like everyone else does. Hope
this helps. You will really need to discuss the specifics of
your contract with your district office personal dept.On
