Re: teaming but how to maintain individuality
Posted by I agree with the poster who said to divide up the curriculum on 5/09/08
and/or subjects and each member of the team be responsible for
one part of it. Now, I cannot speak from experience b/c my
kindergarten team NEVER worked well together. But our first
grade team used to do this. For the month of September, teacher
A would be responsible for planning math (for example) on
measurement (for example), teacher B would be responsible for
planning social studies, teacher C would be responsible for
planning science, and teacher D would be responsible for doing
the homework for the team. They would share their plans/lesson
ideas with their teammates - and then go into their classrooms
and teach. The next month, they would switch roles, so that the
teacher who had planned math would now be planning a different
subject, etc. This not only helped to divide up the planning
(which was easier in the sense that they only had one subject to
plan for instead of several), but it also kept them "on the same
page" as far as what curriculum they were covering each month.
I so wish my team was capable of the same thing...but alas, we
have some very strong personalities, teachers who have been
teaching for so long that they simply use last year's lesson
plan book (and have become stagnant), and teachers who leave
when the kids walk out the door. :(
