Re: teaming but how to maintain individuality

Hi,
Everybody wants everybody to become a team and work together but
doesn't always work. We have 6 of us on the team. I am the middle one
at 30 years old but will be on my 7th year teaching. The veteran is 26
plus years teaching... 2 in the middle are in their late 40s are on
their 2nd and 3rd year..we have 2 younger than me. One first year and
the other 3rd year. So it is definitely different. We have the same
objectives. We have the same curriculum.. science series, social
studies, math and reading series. We all follow the reading series per
week but we do different activities. It really depends on your class
and experience how faithly you follow things. We do the same
science/s.s themes but we all do different things. I am willing to
share if that person shares too. I am pretty consistent with themes per
year (going on 5th in kinder) but may do things differently or not at
all. This year my end of the year is totally different b/c I am trying
to meet more objectives out of our new science series. I guess my
friend describes it best. It is how you are.. your doers who go out of
your way to do everything for your students. Thats me for sure. Then
you have other teachers who walk out the door at 3. In my case ONLY,
those are the teachers it is affecting their students. Have I helped
the two newer teachers. Yes, in the beginning but hey I don't have time
to go asking if they need help. I was always taught to ask if needed...
one teacher 3rd year should know the curriculum (kids are out of
control) and the other one has a mentor who doesn't help nor does she
ask for help. The other teacher wants more to be a friend and her
students lack academic skills because of it. Doing beginning letters
still? The difference will be noticable next year when these kids go
to first grade. You know whos running records to trust and which
teachers push students onto books when they are not ready. I got my
affirmation when my principal told me that i have showed wonderful
personal growth as a teacher working with my students.(Last year was a
little bumpy) I was so proud. I can look at my kids from the beginning
and look at the gains they have made. It is amazing. I will always be
the teacher who stays late or is always on the computer planning. It is
just me. It really depends on the individual. The veteran teacher will
be leaving for prek. So I will have seniority. Although there is a new
teacher from another school who might have more years. You can really
tell somebody something but it is up to them if they follow through.
If teaching isn't in you.. then why stay. Our two younger teachers
just don't put the effort into teaching and it shows.
just my two cents.
