Re: teaming but how to maintain individuality
Posted by kteacher2 on 5/10/08
I just wanted to point out that just because a teacher walks out at 3 or
with their kids, that doesn't make them a poor teacher. I have been
leaving school after the buses leave for about the last 3 months. It
really has been rejuvenating! But, I also bring home a load of work to do
at home. I am married with a 3 year old son, with another baby on the way
(plus I am taking 3 graduate courses). My students are a high priority,
but my son (and husband) is the highest priority! My son goes to bed at
8:00, so I have only a few hours to spend with him. For me, I take home
the stuff I can do at home - after my son is in bed. Then I go in early in
the morning to do stuff at school that I can't do at home -- change
bulletin boards, clean up, prepare projects, etc. I've only gotten better
at this scheduling in the last 3 months or so.
Just remember, we don't know what our colleagues go home to...what their
"home" life is always like. I am certainly not giving the true slackers
any excuses.
Even with my busy schedule, I feel like I am one of the more dedicated
teachers on my team. I am proud that I finally gave myself "permission" to
leave at a decent time. I know I stayed late for the past 7 years, so I am
glad I finally changed my ways.
