I have found that sharing a story is a powerful group
lesson. You can use a good picture book as a springboard
for a ton of amazing activities. If you brainstorm before a
story, that's even better, and you can develop a KWL chart
also. On average, I read a book to my class between 2-4
times a day. We don't extend all of them; some are just
good stories. You can do drawing activities that you can
then share with one another, write different endings to a
story, leave off the ending and have the children draw and
write what comes next, draw and write the beginning, middle
and end of a story, etc. I love using good literature in
the classroom. There's so much you can do with it!
