I believe that it is important to spend the first month of school building the foundation and envrionment as a classroom cohesive group. I want my kids to learn to make good choices based on caring about others and about safety in our room. My classroom expectations (I don't call them rules) are all based on safety in our classroom and keeping relationships positive. We do a lot of role playing in order to help the kids learn how to handle situations properly using language. My kids have always thrived on knowing there are clear cut expectations in the room. I am open and honest about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in the our classroom. I also work hard to use positive managment techniques, and to "catch" any issue before they arise and create an even bigger issue. Hope this helps. It's easy to come up with an answer for an interview, but until you actually live it, you cannot say for sure how you will handle it.
