Posted by az-husker on 5/10/08 my school has a small percentage (atleast for az it's small) of esl kids. we had to come up with a new plan to educate them for next year. the plan is K will be self- contained with only eld kids (or if numbers a too few I will also get non-eld kids that need massive language acquisition - basically the really low kids). then for four hours each day they will receive intensive language lessons - divided into different subjects - oral communication, reading, writing, etc. science and social studies are only to be taught if integrated appropriately in a language lesson. math will be taught (directed by the district but not the state) during the left over 2 hours of instructional time. with the few specials we get, lunch and recess the day is over. I was asked to do this class because my background is working in a district that has a very high population of eld kids and i have the full endorsement. four hours of languge every day (prescribed lessons) makes me a bit nervous. plus, i will have to learn a new report card as the standards for this class are different from those for other k students. anyone out there already do a class like this ---- RESPOND TO THIS POST START A NEW THREAD RETURN TO CHATBOARD Posts on this thread, including this one anyone else out there a self-contained eld/esl class??, 5/10/08, by az-husker.
