Re: Got some dice with word endings (-ate,-ig, etc.)
Hi, First, I would separate out the ones that have long vowel
sounds, because my kids would not be ready for those. If they
are mixed up all on one die with both long and short sounds, I
would take a sticker and cover up the sides with the sounds
that they are not ready to begin reading.
Then I would have the kids choose a card with one letter, and
then roll the die. They would have to try to blend the word
that it makes. If it makes a real word, then they would get a
point (or a cube to represent a point.) If not, then no
point.
You could also have them roll the die and take a letter card,
and then write the word that comes up. Some people make a
chart with the word endings on the bottom, and have the kids
write the word in the correct column as they roll them. Then
you can count how many times a certain ending came up.
Actually, I think that it would be better to take a blank
one-inch cube and write only the word endings on it that you
are working on, and use that one instead! You could also make
a cube with just a few letters for the beginning of the words
instead of drawing a letter card. Just thinking off the top
of my head, here.... :) Heid
