I have a student that is a very quiet, shy 6 year old K student. The first couple of days of school were fine and then the next couple weeks the child has wet himself several times throughout the day. He has gone to the bathroom many times and often encouraged to go try. His mom finally put him in pull ups b/c it was happening so often. After that, he seemed to open up more and start to talk. Even become a bit of a jokester. I've seen nothing out of the ordinary to cause any undue stress other than beginning school. I don't think he has ever been to childcare or preschool. What might this mean and what can we do to help him? Thanks in advance!

Mom has taken him to the dr and there are no medical issues. He started wetting himself at home the same time he did at school. He now wears a pull up daily and is continuously wetting himself even though we ...See More

The parents may excessively question the child about every detail of school which in turn makes him anxious or afraid to go to the bathroom because he might ...See More

Flacka - 1 more thing I had a child 2 years ago who asked for drinks and had many accidents. The mother took her to the doctor who said she was fine, she just had a "small bladder". The next year the child got very, very sick and almost died. Turns out she was diabetic but the doctor never tested her for it initially. Sudden wetting or bed wetting can be a sign of diabe...See More

jacque/WA/K-1/nbct 2006 I agree with Flacka on all fronts....if everyone backs off, the child may very well relax and be fine. School can be especially stressful for those that have not had previous experieces. When my own children experienced a new baby in our household, they didn't regress in their pottying, but the awoke in the middle of the night to pee more and as th...See More
