I am really uncomfortable with "research based". I have been
teaching for many years and have seen many years of learning
thrown down the tubes because administrators used "research-
based". I think that there are many flaws in our research and
what is considered vital one day to help children learn (i.e.
open classrooms and "whole" word approach to reading) become
the garbage the next year. I have taught in schools built in
the 70's that were based on "good, solid research" that were
nothing more than holding cells. So let us define "reseach"
first.
