Re: Organizing School Library
Posted by Kathy/WA on 2/29/08

I know, "chapter books" is an awkward appellation at best, but
it is how the kids and teachers designate the transition into
the fiction section. Do you have a good term for those--well,
early chapter books--that would be accepted by everyone? (My
local public library has a "tweeners" section. I never could
quite figure that one out--I just shelved the books according to
the E or T on the spine when I worked there.)

In my library that section includes such things as Magic Tree
House, Junie B. Jones, The ABC Mysteries, Geronimo Stilton. Come
to think of it, it also includes the series that are the big
brothers of some of the picture book series and designated as
such on the cover: "An Arthur Chapter Book", "A Magic School Bus
Chapter Book", "A Black Lagoon Chapter Book". Can we escape?
