Re: Kathy
Posted by KY Retired Librarian on 3/01/08

No, I don't. I know that it is common to call them "chapter
books", but I wanted the children to use the word "fiction". My
fiction section was not divided between early readers and older
level books, so my "Magic Treehouse" was in the same section as
Harry Potter. I hesitated to use the word "chapter books" because
there are "chapter books" in biography, non-fiction and even some
easy books. I also tried to emphasis the word "picture" books
instead of "easy" books (although I used "E"). I told them they
all had pictures, but weren't all "easy". I did let the students
know that the alternate term wasn't wrong, just I preferred the
other. I DID NOT make a big deal out of it, but I wanted them to
    learn the different terminology.

It was just one of my "quirks". I have no doubt that the librarian
that followed me, is not as "quirky".
