The LC records are great, but that only works for books that LC has. Quite often they only catalog one edition of a work, which makes getting MARC records for the edition the library actually has more difficult. Those with big budgets who can buy all new books can usually get by with LC cataloging, but those who have to rely on donations and purchases of used books can end up with books LC has never seen. Those who get a lot of English and Australian books can also end up not being able to use LC records.
