Post: Suggestions Needed

Posted by Jodi Sell on 3/25/08

My name is Jodi Sell and I was given the Media Specialist
position at the school that I was teaching elementary in. I
have working as the K-12 Media Specialist as well as the
computers teacher all year. I only have 2 periods a day in
the Library and have found that I want to reorganize the
library this summer. The last librarian organized the
library according to AR levels and I don't agree with that.
Take in mind that it is mainly the fiction areas that are
divided according to AR level, for the most part the
nonfictions sections are okay, I think. I was wondering if
anyone would happen to have time if they could answer a
    couple of questions for me?

    1. What type of library do you run? (K-6, K-12, K-3, etc.)

    2. How do you have your library organized? Why did you
    choose this method?

    3. How do you determine what books go in the specific sections?

    4. What do you use as Call Numbers for your sections?

These are just a few questions that I have been wrestling
with and I am having a hard time finding books or articles
on this subject. I appreciate anyone who would be willing
    to respond! Thanks!
