Hot off the presses: the November Teachers.Net Gazette....

    Re: Career Change???
    Posted by RubyLee on 12/30/08

One common mistake I think teachers make when they move to the
Library, is thinking that the job will be easier and that they
will finally be able to work stress-free and only 40 hr
workweeks. It may appear on the outside that this is the case,
but in reality it isn't. Because if you do slow down, you will
start to see some grumbling on the part of the staff, that you
have it easy and that you aren't meeting their needs and yet,
appear to have the time to go that extra mile. So...you need
to go into the library expecting to work just as hard as in any
other position in the school. There are stresses in every job,
the library is no exception, but sometimes the change in
stresses can help one regroup their energy reserves.

I think the other replies to your question did a good job of
summing up the types of activities you'll be involved in. I
have found that your relationship with your colleagues changes
a little bit. I have found staff asking me to do things they
never would have done when I was a teacher. They seem to have
downgraded me in their mind, sometimes talking to me as if I
were their servant, taking my "extra-mile" for granted, and
also disregarding the time I have put into teaching with them.
They will suddenly cancel, change gears, or just not show, all
without any advance warning or thought of the time I may have
put into preparing for them. Setting up and taking down
technology can take a long time, perhaps the night before I was
preparing a lesson for their students when I should have been
spending time with my kids, and they suddenly change their mind
the next day. The lack of control in this area drives me a bit
    nuts.
