Good morning all! I am currently enrolled in a Media Specialist degree program and know I would like to work as a Middle School Media Specialist. However, I have only taught for two years and have been out of the classroom for about five years. I am currently working as an assistant in an elementary school with much of my time spent in the library running reports and doing volunteer activities. Will it hurt my job prospects that I am no longer in the classroom? I have no intentions of going back into the classroom as I really enjoy what I am doing now and am getting hands on experience at the same time. Thanks for any responses!!
Patty You're getting a Media Specialist endorsement to your teaching certificate? Am I understanding your question correctly?

AE0913 Yes, I have a teaching license and I am adding the Media Endorsment, however, I am not currently teaching.

Patty From your username I'm guessing that you are a Wayne State LIS student? :)

To answer your question, no I don't think it would hurt you. I would suggest that you become heavily involved in your professional association for teacher-librarians in your state. This provides a fabulous way to network.
