I've never heard that it's illegal. Perhaps it falls under the
category of confidential/needs to be kept in a locked file
privacy? Whatever the student passwords are, someone there has
total access to everything in their accounts, so I don't know
why it would be a legal issue to have a file with that info.
I have the ability to reset passwords should our students
forget - maybe your help desk could give you access to be able
to do that?
Our last IT guy was really tough - he made them use a
particular combination of letters/number/symbols for their
passwords. He told the kids that if they couldn't remember
their password, then they didn't deserve to have a computer
account. You could try that....
