I am feeling guilty for telling a student, sent to the library by his teacher, that I could not repair his personal book. (The spine was loose and the front cover was detached.)

I repair school textbooks and teachers' personal library classroom sets and of course the library books.

I told the student that I would repair his book this one time but not any more personal books in the future.

My question is should I just repair all such books to maintain good will among teachers and students?

Thank you, Feeling Overwhelmed
Happy Librarian I think you did the right thing! First of all, we don't have time, hardly, to repair library books (right?) as it is, and secondly, at least for me, the district pays for the supplies so it's not ethical, really, either. It's like not letting students print whatever they want with school resources.

Helen I'm with the Happy Librarian: repairing library books IS your responsibility; however, repairing every book of every person in your school is NOT. You don't have to feel bad about saying, "No."
