Re: Ideas for Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen???
Posted by Melissa on 5/21/07

My students & I have spent the last two weeks reading this book. We
haven't done questions for each chapter since I think that is boring
and doesn't really get at their higher level thinking. We've done a
lot of characterization assignments. On Friday, we stopped reading
as we approached the last chapter. I collected the books and ended
up taking them to a neighboring teacher because the wouldn't stop
sneaking the books out of the box so they could read the last
chapter. For our final exam (only 3.5 more days of school!), they
are writing an essay about what they think Juli's reasons are for
walking away, ignoring Bryce, etc. We will finish the book up on
Wednesday. My students were devastated. I literally had to wrestle
the books away from some of them. It makes for an easy exam.
