Wow, I have purchased more than fifty copies of this book over
the years and they all get "lost" or come back in tatters as
kids share the book. I don't want to sound critical, but our
world has changed a great deal, and our children know more
about violence than our parents thought possible outside of a
war zone. I do not know where you teach, but many of my
students have lived through abuse, and those that have not,
are very aware that we do not live in Eden. They want and
need to explore the psychology of how these things happen.
Just discussing it with a few students at a time elicits such
incredible insight. I cannot wait to do it this next school
year as our novel--I had more than fifty requests for it from
kids who had heard about it or seen parts of my copies. My
kids WANT to read? We are going to grab it and go.
