Carmel Elementary just completed a One Book, One School project. It was very successful. Our PreK-Grade 5 school (240 children) all read The Raft by Jim LaMarche. The books were distributed to every familyfor at home reading; each day for a week I asked questions during morning announcements to generate interest and classroom discusssions. One the last of the week, we had a whole school book club. Children were divided into groups of six, each led by an adult. We have been practicing book conversations for this school year, so the conversations actually happened very easily. Community members led some of the groups and gave me feedback for improvement. It was a really good experience.
