Check out Improvisation for the Theater 3E: A Handbook of
Teaching and Directing Techniques by Viola Spolin. It has
exercises and games in it that work for all ages (from very
young through high school). They'd work great for Middle
School. It goes through everything from orientation first day
activities on through play rehearsals. I used them for high
school and supplemented with activities from a drama
textbook. I also recommend checking out the ELA teacher's
materials. You may find plays in their text that they are
teaching and the students could perform for their classes.
(Those texts will be at their grade level as well.) Good luck
and have fun with it.
