Hello - I am really interested in getting my masters in early childhood special education. I was wondering if any knew that if I cannot get a job teaching special education could I teach in a non-special education classroom with this degree? Thanks

Sped sub SpEd teachers often need a break from the soul draining demands special ed here in Texas, and it is quite common to learn that the general ed teacher taught SpEd for several years before going into a general ed classroom. suzy except that most special ed teachers do not know what to do with reading. having said that, some learn because they want to.

Elaine / OR In Oregon, the license for special education is different from general elementary. An elementary teacher cannot teach special education without additional coursework and certification. The opposite is also true, a special education teacher cannot teach general education without additional coursework and certification.

Sped sub In Texas it it different then. We are first certified as either elementary or secondary teachers, then the SpEd certification (PK - 12) kicks in on top of that. So, I did my complete elementary ed coursework, the hours for my discipline (minor such as language or math), plus the additional hours for SpEd certfication.
