Re: Should I have a student teacher????
Posted by lynne/ca on 5/02/08

Yes, a 5th year teacher could be ready, but this is really a
question you can only ask yourself. Do you feel you have a
good handle on classroom management, instruction, and
assessment? Would you be able to explain to a student
teacher how you do those things? Would you be comfortable
evaluating a student teacher and providing constructive
feedback, and have you had good evaluations yourself? Would
you be able keep from jumping in and taking over when you
see your student teacher making mistakes with your kids?
Regarding pay, it varies a lot; it's often not very much and
in some cases there is no pay involved at all. My advice is
that regardless of what the stipend might be at your school,
if you're thinking of doing it just for the money, don't do
    it.
