Posted by zodea on 5/03/08 I think 5th year is about perfect for having a student teacher. You still remember what is was like those first few years of teaching, but probably have your act together now. You would have a chance to get some new ideas. When I student taught, my cooperating teacher had been teaching for over 20 years. She admited she probably wasn't the best choice because she didn't really remember how things felt those first few years. She was on autopilot and didn't think much about how she did things. My first year of teaching, my so called mentor had been teaching over 30 years. She offered not useful advice. She say "just do it" but not give any insite on HOW to do it.
