Re: Praxis ii middle school math
Posted by Tom418 on 5/16/08

I agree. I took Linear Algebra as a sophmore, and it is so useful in physics
(X and dot products) , solving linear systems (determinants), etc.

Black-Scholes I believe would be part of a business course. Prior to
teaching, I was an options trader, and did my own calcs of options prices
(which is where Black-Scholes comes into play)

I believe there are too many math teacher wannabees out there, who major in
subjects other than math, but come crawling out of the woodwork with a
sudden interest in math, because it is a "shortage" area as far as jobs go.
My state(Connecticut) lowered the Passing 0061 PRAXIS score to 137 from 141.
They did this because they wanted to keep the pass rates consistent with
other subjects. Perhaps we should hold neuro-surgeons to the same standard
    as computer programmers?
