    If you have read the whole thread you will see that no one has suggested that
    teaching skill is subordinate to subject matter competency. No has suggested
    that so long as someone knows the math they will be a good teacher. The point
    that *has* been made is that without subject matter competency, all of the
    teaching skill in the world will not result in students' learning.
    Matematically we would say that subject matter competency is a necessary but not
    sufficient requirement for a math teacher.

    And the praxis middle school math test is so basic that a failure to sail
    through it calls into serious question the subject matter competence of those
    who fail it.
