Re: The perfect math curr - Start at removing items
Posted by dm on 4/27/08

I teach 6-8 math. The students are introduced to topics
early then when they get to me, they *think* they know
things so don't listen. I'd rather 5th graders take the
time they spend on geometry and refine their fraction
skills. Yes, geometry is important, but some of those ideas
can wait. Likewise, I suspect the 4th grade teacher would
be more than happy to be the teacher to introduce fractions
to students who have mastered multiplying. As for middle
school curriculum, sure, students need to be able to display
data, but do they really need to know how to do a box-and-
    whisker plot?
