Basics are definitely lacking as mentioned in several posts. I do agree that this lack creates many problems later on because the students rarely know about basic number sense therefore do not understand upper level math. Only the few who have a natural grasp of the patterns and logic tend to do well. I've enjoyed this post and appreciate the insightful unput provided.
