Correlation is not causation. Students with the academic discipline to successfully go beyond algebra 2 bring that same academic discipline to their college studies - hence the high rate of success. Success beyond Alg2 is not the cause of a higher rate of college success, IMO, they are both effects of another cause - academic discipline.
