If you read a history book that had no dates and no names in it, but hinted all around the subject so that you had to work out for yourself which century you were in, would you feel bad about your previous teacher if it took you half an hour to figure out that you were reading about Rosa Parks? Or would you say "I'd like to learn from a history book that mentions names and dates, please"? That's what this student feels as if she is doing. Moreover, it adds insult to injury when she realizes that she's done all this work to get to a concept that she already knew. It's like having to translate your textbook out of Latin in order to use it, and realizing that it covers the same material as your last year's textbook did.
