Our principal said the extra time would be used for group work and hands on projects. That sounds nice in theory, but is it realistic to expect a math teacher to have these activities every day? And don't 12 - 14 year olds have short attention spans? The principal said a benefit will be less walking around in the halls. That does sound good but don't some kids need to get up and walk around regularly? I can definately see the benefit of longer periods for science, history and LA, because of labs and role playing or group discussions and presentations; but I'm wondering about math.
