    Re: dysfunctional hiring practices
Posted by In Ohio too on 5/21/08

I understand dysfunctional hiring practices. I have been
the long term sub in a gifted math program for the last 6
months. I applied for the position full time, jumped
through all of the ridiculous hoops, and have been working
my behind off. I was told there was one other candidate for
the position who was just graduating from college (I
graduated 2 1/2 year ago, but have been subbing due to an
utter lack of teaching jobs here). Anyway, I was called
into the principal's office the other day and, as if it was
absolutely no big deal, he tells me, "Well, as you know
there was another candidate for the position and we have
offered it to her and she has accepted...." I was
dumbfounded. When I asked why, since we have the same
credentials and I have classroom experience which she does
not, I was told "It was an administrative decision". What
the h*** does that mean??? I still have 3 weeks of school
left and the last place I want to be is in a classroom that
some other, inexperienced person is going to be taking over
in August. Sorry for the venting, but I am angry and just
    needed to let off steam.

(She's probably the cousin of the niece of the
superindtendent or something,,,,I just don't understand the
    way they hire)
