Re: Any cool ideas for passes (math related)?
    Posted by DSF/NJ on 6/30/08

We are not allowed to use anything but the filled in paper
hall passes. I think the philosophy is that teachers will be
stingier in handing them out if they have to stop to fill one
out and sign it each time. Personally, I make the kids fill
it out (name, time, date, destination, where coming from) and
    then I sign it.

In one of my former schools, teachers would use different
objects - our mascot was the bee, so I found a terry cloth
bee (it was meant to be a tub sponge for a child, with an
elastic strap on the back that you could slip over your
hand). I liked it because I could take it home and throw it
in the wash and clean it (the kids were taking it to and from
    the bathroom, after all).

One teacher (stocky, bald guy) found a doll that looked just
like him - and his kids used that as the room pass.

The advantage to this was that everyone got to know everyone
else's 'pass' and we could identify where the kids were
coming from as they came down the hall.

I went out and purchased (from Office Depot or Staples) a
plastic sign for an office restroom - you can get them for
men and women separately OR one sign for both men and women.
They are plastic, so they are washable (and bleachable). I
am not allowed to use it in this school, though.

Basically, I wouldn't have a wooden pass anymore because of
    the bacteria it can grown.

Are you allowed to create a pass and then laminate it?

A friend of mine has giant plastic keys - a blue one
for 'boys' and a pink one for 'girls' - she allows two kids
out of the room at any one time.

As far as a 'math' theme - someone with a jigsaw could cut
arithmetic signs or a large pi for you, I suppose.
