This will be my 3rd year teaching 5th grade math using the
Houghton series as my base and it is by far my favorite. The
daily overhead problem of the days are a great way to start
class. They also include review problems I use for short pop
quizzes sometimes.
There are a lot of good resources and supplemental practice
problems included.
**The Retach workbook in the teach set is excellent to copy
and send to parents wanting to give extra help. Many parents
learned math differently than the way we teach it today. The
reteach workbook gives step by step examples of the way we
are teaching our students.
**Also I reccomend setting up online access to the textbook
for your students and parents. Mine use it all the time as
the version online is an exact replica. This lightens up the
backpacks and gives parents something to look off when their
child forgets their book.
I use Prentice Hall for my 1 6th grade section and it is
also good. Anything is better than the Everyday Math series.
