OUr school just finished our first year with it K-6. I
believe that almost everyone liked it, although our K
teachers found it hard to do in a half-day program. The web
site is wonderful - tons of resources and printables; you
can access all the reteaching/practice/homework/enrichment
sheets for all grades, all lessons, easily! There is a
section on there for parents and students, so I would
recommend spending some time on the web site with your class
and sending home the web site so they and their parents can
access it at home.
It is an easy program to modify up or down and there are
TONS of assessments; too many to use all, so you will have
to look through the materials and decide which is most
beneficial at your grade.
Prior to HM, we were using Growing With Math K-5 and Addison-
Wesly Middle School Math Course 1 in Grade 6. The
expectations that HM has at the beginning of the year for
the students have mastered are slighly high ~ I suggest
spending time this summer looking over unit 1 and seeing how
it compares with what you've taught in September before.
Our 5th and 6th grade teachers had to do a LOT of pre-
teaching in the midst of the lessons as there were some
items that Growing with Math hadn't covered enough the year
before.
Good Luck!
