Students compete both individually and as a team. They get awarded both individuallly and as a team. All students get a participation award. (Takes the office staff a LONG time... but they do it!) So each team comes forward to receive a certificate. If it's a team placement they receive an award, and then they do individual. 1-2-3 place is a medallion, 4-5-6 is a ribbon. So some walk away with three items in their hands, but everyone has an item. Because dealing with UIL takes a while, those are generally given out in a separate award ceremony... preferably shortly after the event.
