Re: My class period seems short at 45 min!
Posted by Kim/AR/math on 10/09/08
Our school is trying something new this year. Our basic
schedule is set up with 8 45min class periods.
Seventh grade math and literacy are 1 and 1/2 periods. So,
students have these classes back to back.
Eight grade math, 8th grade resource math, and Algebra I (8th
grade advanced math class) are all 45 min.
For the 8th grade students who are weak math students, the
powers that be decided that the students would not be able to
complete Alg I in the 9th grade when taken on a traditional 50
min class schedule. So, they are taking the first half of Alg I
in the 8th grade. But it is double blocked (2 45min classes).
During that time, we are required to do remediation with those
students who failed the state test. We are also responsible for
teaching the 8th grade curriculum. Luckily, about 60% of the
8th grade curriculum is the same as the Alg A curriculum.
