Our periods are 45 minutes but math and language arts have
two back-to-back periods on at least one day per week. It is
necessary in case of large benchmark tests that take two
class periods (in that case kids work through the passing
period in between but are let out earlier). I think foreign
language and shop (and maybe art) also have one "block" each
week. The other subjects always have single 45 minute
periods. I have just two periods each week (90 minutes
total), so if I had a block I wouldn't see the kids until
next week. (I wonder if I would like three 30-minute periods
    better? hmmm...)
