Re: My class period seems short at 45 min!
    Posted by dm on 10/09/08

Gosh, after reading the posts replying to this, I should
thank my lucky stars for 46 minutes!

I've started something new over the last 3 days so we'll see
if it works. So far so good.

When students walk in, I have the first student pick up all
the papers from yesterday's assignment. We immediately
start on the next day's lesson. That takes around 15
minutes. Then I have them write a number on their paper on
a scale of 1 to 10 to determine where they're at. Then I
might do another example if needed. Once they're starting
on their new assignment, I chug through the papers quick as
quick can be. By the time I finish correcting, they're
getting to the tougher problems where they need more
guidance. The last five minutes I hand back the work and
guide them on what went wrong on yesterday's assignment.
    Then end of class.

On one hand, I like grading after notes because it cuts out
repeated and unnecessary questions. But I don't like it
because we switch gears at the end of class. Like I said...
3 days into it, we'll see.
