All great responses here! I don't know the specifics of your
situation (age, class, what the assignment was, etc.) but if there's
any way you can present it to the parents in a, "I'm really worried
about Timmy and why he made this choice," kind of way, that will
usually help. Either show concern or no emotion, but not any anger
when you talk to parents.
Avoid the word "caught" at all costs. It can be read as you trying
to catch the kid - being out to get him. "Noticed" implies that you
were surprised by this choice. (Even if you weren't!)
