Re: Girl calls me name/imm. apologizes/what would you do?

What's your goal? What do you want to accomplish with this
student? What you do should be aimed toward achieving your
goal and you haven't said what that is.
My goal is to build bridges with students. I don't call my
students ignorant and so if they call me ignorant, I'd want
to know what made them say such a thing. Of course we all
have our moments but growing up is partly about learning to
control such moments and to respond to them in a different
way than to insult the people around you.
I wouldn't want her calling anybody ignorant - student or
    teacher. I don't care about 'attitudinal voices' - I don't
let myself get emotional about this things or my ego.
But I care very much about helping her to figure out what
went wrong and I care as much about building a positive
    relationship with her.
And so - despite the fact that's she apologized, I'd seek her
out and I'd want to talk. I certainly wouldn't call her out
at the next class or any class - this is not a public matter.
Once is enough - I want her to start to learn now how not to
do this and you say she has a problem with blurting out
    impulsive things. I'm a teacher - I can help with that. Let's
strategize together to figure out not to do that.

I want to leave this moment with this student and most others
with having moved forward not backward in our working
relationship and in our understanding of each other. I want
the student to move forward in their social skills and I want
to foster that at every opportunity.
    Good luck.

But what I do is geared what I want to accomplish - your
goals may be the same or may be different and what you do
should be geared to what you want to accomplish.

    >> Opinions, feedback, advice: greatly appreciated. Thank
    you.
