I do not require any at-home reading. Students are given 15-20
minutes of schedule reading time and at least that
much "unschedule" time during "down time" in other classes.
The kids who will read at home will do so with or without a
reading log. The kids who won't read will usually either just
plain not do it, or they will make a "fake" reading log.
When parents are concerned, I recommend that if the child won't
bring a book home, that they get a book that stays at home.
