Re: Students reading at home - 6th grade

I go back and forth with the log. A few years ago, I did not have
a log but they had to read a certain amount weekly and do a 1 page
reflection. I liked how that worked. In my current school, I do
have a log, but it is a little different. They log what they read
each night. Oh, also at the beginning of the week they make a
reading goal. Thursday they reflect on what they read and also
reflect on their goal. It's working ok. There will always be the
issue of kids not reading or faking logs. But, I know this going
into it. I do think it is important to require outside reading
because some students will read only if it is required. And some
of these students enjoy reading!
