Re: Can't Find Another Job... Stupid To Take The One I Did

Our situations sound sadly similar, except you're in
Illinois and I'm in Washington, DC. I left a private school
I'd been at 2 years to try a public "Montessori" program, in
the hopes of (a) earning a salary that would allow my
partner and I to own a home, something I could not have done
on my private school salary and (b) working with a more
diverse population.
In the end, my principal had ZERO respect or understanding
for Montessori, refused to give me an assistant for my
beginning class of 13 students (one who had frequent
accidents that I could not attend to while maintaining the
class, etc.) The principal called me "pathetic" for needing
an assistant, and told me I should be "embarrassed" to ask
for one.
I left 2 weeks ago, and have called 30+ Montessori schools
within an hour of me. Of course, no openings. I even
interviewed for an interesting head start teaching job (not
Montessori) teaching homeless children, but they have not
called since my interview Tuesday. I am currently working at
an Italian restaurant and feeling like it is wishful
thinking to hope something will open up at a nearby school
in early October.
Like you, I wish I'd been more scrutinous of the program,
principal, etc., before signing a contract and locking
myself into a position that was so clearly not a good fit.
Good luck with your search, and let me know if anything
comes your way!
