Hello everyone,
I just wanted to know what others were thinking about the
latest announcement from the Ontario gov't. Starting in
Sept 2010 (full implementation within 3 years), elementary
schools will offer a full time kindergarten program.
Program will include an optional extended day for working
families. Children can attend school for as long as 10.5
hours per day! Here is a link about the new programs that
will be offered in just a year:

As a Montessori Directress I have many concerns/
reservations about this program. Just what will it do to
our private schools? I offer just a home based Montessori
program. It is very difficult to be taken seriously when
you are home based. At least with half day public
kindergartens, I would still have the opportunity to work
with 4 and 5 year olds for the other half day. Now it looks
as though I will lose them all at just 4 years (or less)!
Is anyone else in Ontario concerned about this? Perhaps I
am just overacting?
